Utah Real Estate Seminar Company Zurixx Slapped With Federal Charges

Interesting news from the real estate investor universe as Cottonwood Heights based company Zurixx LLC has been slapped with federal and state charges. According to the formal complaint to the courts, the company over promised and under delivered on its pledge to make its clients rich with little or no effort on their part. Oops.
According to the complaint, the company would use HGTV and A&E stars as spokespersons to lure people to their “free” seminars. At the seminar, they would supposedly learn nothing but instead be invited to spend $2,000 on a three day seminar. At the three day seminar, they would then be invited to spend $40,000 on additional seminars. It appears the money-back guarantee Zurixx promised its seminar attendees was also laden with all kinds of poorly disclosed exceptions. The company appears to also be guilty of forcing dissatisfied clients to sign non-disclosure agreements about their grievances and compelling them also to not to talk to the Federal Trade Commission. So, it appears they were purchasing their unhappy customer’s silence.
Given all the praise that has been heaped on this Utah based company, this is quite a fall from grace.
The real estate investor universe is rife with salesmen and pitches that promise to help everyday people learn how to make money in the business. While most are legitimate enterprises and provide what they promise, some are merely predatory operations running on the “a fool and his money are soon parted” business model. Sad to see. Bottom line: Do your homework before handing over thousands of dollars for an education in real estate. Better yet, if you are seriously looking to get into real estate investments, contact a local and seasoned investor/realtor/property manager like myself who is immersed in the business and won’t charge you thousands of dollars to learn the ropes. You’ll skip all the mistakes and get on to the successes more quickly.
