OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS: Ogden Landmarks Up for Sale
Published On: December 9, 2024 Posted by: Jeremy Peterson
The Federal Government has a heavy presence in Ogden. For decades the U.S Forest Service has occupied the Leslie Hodgson designed building at 507 25th Street. Also, the monolithic building at 324 25th Street has been used by the IRS and other agencies since its construction in 1965.
This week the Federal government announced its intention to divest itself of these two buildings due to age and the cost of upkeep and renovations. This historic event opens a door of opportunity for Ogden.
The Forest Service building is an amazing Ogden landmark and should be preserved and reused as best as possible. However, the building at 324 25th Street is a monument to shortsightedness and development malpractice. Its construction required the demolition of an entire block face of Historic 25th Street. Poetic justice would see it have the same fate as its unfortunate predecessors.
The divestiture process is long and this is just the opening scene. Let’s watch and see who’s interested in this historic opportunity.
